Starry Silene (Silene Stellata)

Starry Silene (Silene Stellata)

Silenes are often called "catchfly" because the stems exude a sticky sap that entraps insects. There are 12 Silene species in Missouri, 6 of which are native.

The Silenes are most closely related to the pinks. They all are members of the family Caryophyllaceae.
