Prickly pear (Opuntia compressa)

Cactaceae, the cactus family, are strictly native to North America. Missouri has two species.

Prickly pear pads are edible and supposedly even good when cooked. Prickly pears are cultivated for their fruits which are used in wine and jelly and eaten raw.
