Wild Petunia (Ruellia sp.)

Wild Petunia (Ruellia sp.)

There are two native Ruellia species in Missouri. Both are found in open, sunny, hot environments. The dense hairs on these plants are thought help prevent the loss of moisture due to evaporation.

Most "petunias" belong to the nightshade family, but Ruellia do not.
