Journey In Words to a Personal Mythology
Online Writing Class for Diana’s Grove 2008
This year, we will be exploring and discovering our personal mythologies through writing. What is a personal mythology? It is the story of your life, the objects, people, ideas, places, emotions, colors, animals, and matter that you have gathered around you—in your memory, in your dreams, and in your waking life.
By doing various writing exercises and sharing that writing with each other, we will build a personal mythology that grows in complexity throughout the year. As you explore your past, present, and future in words, you can gain insights into the ways you have been and are becoming.
No writing experience is necessary. All genres—poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and more—are welcome, and exercises will be designed to allow for maximum flexibility.
Writing will not be evaluated but will be appreciated and acknowledged. The class will be a safe, inviting forum in which you can journey with your own writing style and subject matter. The philosophical cornerstones of Diana’s Grove will be used in facilitating the class. These cornerstones allow this forum to be a rare and inviting place to communicate and to share writing online.
When you register for Mystery School 2008 and the class, you will receive a writing notebook. Each spiral notebook will have a unique cover collaged by Shaun.
The class facilitator, Shaun Perkins, has been a teacher for over twenty years. She has facilitated the online writing class for Diana’s Grove for 4 years. She teaches writing to high school and college students and has presented writing workshops locally and nationally. Her work has been published in numerous literary journals and in two co-written books. For more information about her, visit www.journeyinwords.com.
The world, individual cultures and societies, lost worlds, living worlds—they all have their mythology. And so do you . . . What is your story?
